Jean Berthke Elshtain’s Public Men, Private Women explores the general tendency to give imprtance to the public world domianted by men and denigrate the private world the “familial sphere” dominated by women. The book was published in 1981.

Radha Kumar’s “History of Doing- An illustrated account of movement’s for women’s right and feminism in India” is a history of the women’s movement in India both before and after independence. It looks at how women’s issues were raised, initially by men and as part of the movements for social reform, and then with the involvement of women in the nationalist movement, by women themselves.

Women’s Estate is a work of Juliet Mitchell. It was published in 1974. The book examines the oppression of women in four key areas, i.e. work, reproduction, sexuality and the socialization of children.

The Female Eunuch is a 1970 book by Germaine Greer. The book was published in 1970. The book challenges a woman’s traditional role in society, in the home and encourage women to explore ways to break out of the mould that society had imposed on them.
