Read the following paragraph and answer the five questions that follow:
A personality psychologist wanted to factor analyze the important personality traits. He selected personality scales of 78 important personality traits presumed to cover most of the important characteristics. These scales were administered to a sample of eight hundred and fifty respondents. The intercorrelations among the 78 traits were computed and the correlation matrix was obtained retaining unities in the diagonal spaces of the correlation matrix, unrotated factors were extracted. Cattell’s scree plot favored fifteen factor solution. The fifteen factors together condensed percent of variance. The first factor condensed 18 percent variance. The 15 factors were rotated and the interfactor correlations were examined. Since some of the interfactor correlations were substantial, the psychologist decided to carry out the second order factor analysis (November paper 3)
