  • The National Integration Council met after a long gap of nearly thirteen years. The last meeting held in November 1992.
  • Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru launched ISC, as a multiparty agency, considering the diversities of the country. The first meeting took place in 1962. Four potential gray areas were identified:
    • communalism,
    • casteism,
    • regionalism and
    • linguism.
  • At the first meeting of this Council in 1962, Panditji regarded communal harmony and the integration of different regions of the country as the two most important issues.
