Two people, Louis Lumiere and Augustus Lumiere screened their first motion picture to a group of people in France on December 28th, 1895. One year later, they landed in India displayed their 6 short films at the Watson Hotel, Bombay. It was the first time where a sub continent was witnessing the screening of cinematography. Talkies Era (from 1931) - the Golden Era of Indian Cinema

Talkies Era started in 1929 by the screening of The Motion of Love. It was the first talkie to be screened in India. However, ‘Alam Ara’ was the first Indian talkie to be screened in 1931. The movie was directed by Ardeshir Irani with Prithviraj Kapoor, Master Vithal and Miss Zubeida as the lead actors. Like many other movies in this era, it was a movie adapted from a play. The movie release was celebrated as a great occasion in Majestic theatre, Bombay.
