Coral Bleaching: Causes of Coral Bleaching
Coral whitening by stress-induced expulsion or death of symbiotic protozoa, zooxanthellae, or by pigment loss within protozoa leads to coral bleaching. Corals get their color by zooxanthellae and shade of color depends on particular clade (subclass of zooxanthellae) . Corals get lighter or white under stress when zooxanthellae are expelled.
