Reference Station

Typical surveys use stationary reference receiver and mobile or stationary rover. GPS reference station operates 24 hours a day. Coordinates of this station are known before using GPS on any other machines. GPS reference station performs following two functions at the same time:

  • Receive data from the satellites.
  • Broadcast GPS data to the rovers.

Good reference site has following features:

  • Clear view to the sky
  • Proximity to working areas
  • Absence of RF interference
  • Minimal sources of multipath
  • Continuous AC or DC power source
  • Stable foundation & antennae mount
  • Good accessibility
