Ecotone
- The term Eco tone is derived from the Greek roots “oikos” (house/dwelling) and “tonos” (tension) .
- Clements (1905) described an ecotone as a tension zone where principal species from adjacent communities meet their limits.
- The Oxford English Dictionary (OED: www.oed.com) defines an ecotone as “A transitional area between two or more distinct ecological communities” .
- It is where two communities meet and integrate.
