Evolutionary Process Models: Risk Handling
Risk Handling
This is a very important aspect of the Spiral model. In the diagram we can observe the presence of “risk analysis” in the Planning phase of the spiral. A risk is any adverse situation that might affect the successful completion of a software project. The spiral model handles these unknown risks after the project has started.
Notice the modified spiral model above. There are different loops for producing a series of prototypes and each of the phases has got a “risk analysis” component running with the loop.
Such risk resolutions are easily done by developing a …

Evolutionary Process Models: Risk Determines Degree of Details
Risk Determines Degree of Details
For any project artifact like requirements specification or test plan etc. the project team must decide how much detail is enough. In the authentic spiral process cycles, these decisions are made by minimizing overall risk.
Example, let us consider the requirements specification document of the software. The project should precisely specify those features where risk is reduced through precise specification. These features could be the interfaces between the hardware and software.
Carefully observe how the above points about Risk have been shown for “level of effort” and “degree of detail” …
