But it is not proper o call it Master Endocrine Gland because it itself is under control of Hypothalamus. Thus hypothalamus is, in fact the supreme commander of endocrinal regulation

  • It develops from ectoderm of the embryo. It is smallest endocrinal gland in body. The pituitary is attached to the hypothalamus by a stalk. It is reddish grey in colour and oval in shape.

  • The anterior and intermediate lobes of the pituitary grow in fetus from Rathke’s pouch, which is an… (2050 more words) …

Synthesis, storage and release of hormones

General plan

1. Protein and polypeptide hormones; they contain chains of amino acids linked by peptide bonds

Synthesis; takes place in granular (rough) endoplasmic reticulum of the glandular cells in the same manner as other proteins are synthesized. First the prehormone or prohormone is synthesized from amino acids inside the cells by rough endoplasmic reticulum. This precursor is converted to hormone with in the Golgi complex.

Storage and release; these hormones are stored in the cells in the form of secretory granules and released on demand by exocytosis

2. Steroid hormones;

Synthesis; they are lipid soluble… (571 more words) …
