Part of GIT – Large Intestine

Large intestine;

its diameter is more than that of the small intestine. It arches around the coils of the small intestine and is more fixed than small intestine. It has following parts

  • Caecum; it is a pouch like structure about 6 cm in size in which lower end of ileum opens. The ileocaecal junction is guarded by a valve, ileocaecal valve which allows on flow of intestinal contents but back flow is prevented.
