Pharynx; is behind the soft palate and is divided into;

  1. Nasopharynx; is nasal part of pharynx which is most superior portion of the pharynx. It lies next to the internal nares. It is connected to middle ear on both sides by Eustachian tube (auditory tube). Food never enters the nasopharynx; it is a passage for respiratory tract only.
