Sharda Sadan


Sharda Sadan was a School for Indian Widows started in Bombay in the year 1889 by Pandita Ramabai. It was a house of learning for the widow community.

  • The Sharda Sadan was opened in Bombay at Chowpatty, an area of Mumbai which was under the British Rule at that time.
  • This Sadan was mainly launched to uplift the life of the Hindu Women who were widowed young by providing education and security to the widowed women.
  • The Education was provided using practical training, rehearsals and mock drills.
  • Women were taught several ways to secure themselves from any external threat.
