Agreement on Agriculture (AoA)

Edit

Agreement on Agriculture is the WTO՚s trade rule for agriculture commodities. It was signed at the Uruguay Round and is one of the four most important agreements of the WTO. The AoA stands for the promotion of agricultural trade and has three clauses: market access, domestic support and export competition.

569. Market Access

Market access literally means market entry. Market access is one of the three clauses of the WTO՚s Agreement on Agriculture. Under this clause, WTO member countries have to reduce their level of tariff on agricultural imports to provide entry into the partner country՚s market. The clause instructs conditions for market access to be provided by member countries for imports from other countries.

Agreement or Technical Barriers to Trade (WTO)

Edit

The agreement on technical barriers to trade of the WTO provides regulations on technical standards including packaging, labelling requirements, and often environmental quality standards to be kept during trade. The WTO prescribes that members shall not adopt unnecessary obstacles to international trade while following these measures. But several developed countries are using these technical barriers as Non-Tariff weapons to reduce imports.
