Victory of Assam

  • Just after his accession, first of all, he attained victory over Assam. Taking advantage of the outburst of the war and the weakness of Shuja, the rulers of Assam and Kuch Bihar had occupied some of the provinces of the Mughals and restored their independence. Moreover, they tried to conquer some of the Mughal provinces.
  • Aurangzeb, right after his accession appointed Mir Jumla on the post of Subedar of Bengal and instructed him to crush the Assam rebels. After establishing his sway over Kuch Bihar, Mir Jumla, moved towards Assam and defeated the Ahom rulers of Assam. In the naval war also, he forced the ruler of Assam to bow down and captured his capital Garhgaon.

Aurangzeb՚s Relations with Britishers

  • At Harimpur, Madrasa, Hugli and some other places, like Portugueses, Britishers had also established. They were given several concessions by Mughal rulers. Throughout the empire, they were authorized to conduct their trade by a Farman of Aurangzeb which was issued in March 1680 AD. At Surat only, they were liable to pay Octroi at the rate 3 and percent.
  • At Qasim Bazar, some difference cropped up among the British and Mughals. In 1684, the Mughal army besieged their colony at Qasim Bazar…
