Gorakhnath Shaivism

  • Gorakshanatha (Gorakhnath) founded Gorakhnath Shaivism around the 10th century AD. He was claimed to be a Matsyendranatha disciple. The followers of this sect claim that Matsyendranath got knowledge of their practice directly from Shiva himself. The works like Siddha Siddhanta Paddhathi and Viveka Martanda are attributed to Gorakshanatha. In an attempt to maintain the Adinatha tradition, he also founded 12 monastic orders in Northern India.
