Denudation Chronology and Erosion Surfaces: Denudation Chronology

Edit

Denudation Chronology

Denudation chronology is a branch of landform studies concerned with historical landscape development by denudation mainly in pre-quaternary times. Such history is provided by erosional studies, mantling deposits, drainage patterns, stream long-profiles, and geology. Its primary goal is to reconstruct chronological history of denudation and to identify, date, and interpret planation surfaces developed in past cycles and sub-cycles of erosion. Ultimate objective is to provide description of landform evolution through successive stages of geological time.

Denudational Chronology

Assumptions

  • It believes that there is sequential change in landforms through time.
  • It is based on Davis cycle of evolution, which…

Denudation Chronology and Erosion Surfaces: Erosion Surfaces

Edit

Erosion Surfaces

Erosion surfaces or planation surfaces are almost plain surfaces with undulating ground surface and remnant low reliefs. These are formed by denudational processes and cutting across geological formations and structures. Planation is erosional geomorphic process, which creates flat surfaces by water, wind or marine processes taking millions of years to form today՚s landscapes. Although it has been studied sinc…
