Intergroup Relation

  • Inter-group relationship means the relationship of people between different groups. When people think and act as members of a group, they increase the similarities between the members of their own group i.e.. the group. In 1966, Muzafer Sherif defined intergroup relations more broadly.
  • According to him, “Whenever a person belonging to a group collectively or individually, interacts with another group or its members in terms of their group identity, it is called an inter-group relationship.” Pluralism is considered the most tolerant form of intergroup relations.
