Non Continuity theory implies that learning discrimination is not a constant accumulation of positive and negative habit strength or the like. Therefore, discrimination learning essentially involves hypothesis testing. The rewarding or the non-rewarding outcome on the trial causes the subject to learn about the hypothesis that dominated his or her choice of the trial.
