Important Definition

According to Cameron, a phobic reaction is an attempt to reduce internally generated tension and anxiety by a process of displacement, projection, and avoidance. In general, it is an obsessive, persistent, unrealistic, and intense fear of situation or object, the fear is believed to arise through a process of displacing an internal unconsciousness conflict to external object simultaneously related to conflict.
