Passage

Liberation can be obtained only by devotion and worship and not by mere knowledge. All illusions do not vanish by merely knowing or by possessing the jnana. One such example would be a person suffering from Jaundice would see all things with a tint of yellow. Now, this yellowness would not vanish upon knowing by the person that one has jaundice. This can be removed by taking medication which removes the excessive bile. If mere knowledge would lead to liberation then any one would have simply attained liberation and all these texts, scriptural reading becomes useless. Real Brahman knowledge is not verbal knowledge either. Had that been the case then all knowers of Vedanta texts would have attained Brahman and obtained liberation. Via devotion and worship can be obtain liberation. They are the important means to the end, liberation. Rather, it is only via these means can we really please the God. Devotion and worship is a form where one completely surrenders the self to God. It is also a form of deep attachment to God.
