Standard Turing Machine and Its Variations

Edit

Standard Turing Machine and Its Variations

We have already seen the Standard Turing Machine, let us now directly see its variations,

1. Multi-tape Turing Machines - As the name suggests, these machines have multiple tapes where each tape is accessed with a separate head. Each head can move independently of the other heads. Initially the input is on tape 1 and others are blank. At first, the first tape is occupied by the input and the other tapes are kept blank.

Universal Turing Machines

Edit

Universal Turing Machines

The Universal Turing machine (UTM) is a Turing Machine that can simulate an arbitrary Turing machine on arbitrary input. It does this by reading both the description of the machine to be simulated as well as the input thereof from its own tape. Alan Turing introduced the idea of such a machine in 1937.

There are in fact two ways of arranging for a Turing machine to act in accordanc…
