Choice (4) Response

a.

i, ii and iii

b.

i and ii

c.

i, ii, iii and iv

d.

Both a. and c. are correct

Answer

d.

Explanation

Capillary water: is held in the capillary pores (micro pores) . It is retained on the soil particles by surface forces.

Factors affecting the capillary water are:

  1. Surface Tension: Increase in surface tension increase the amount of capillary water.
  2. Soil Texture: Finer the texture of soil, greater is the amount of capillary water. This is due to the greater surface area of soil particle.
  3. Soil Structure: Platy structure contains more water than granular structure.
  4. Organic matter: Organic matter helps to increase the capillary capacity of a soil. Undecomposed organic generally porous having a large surface area, which helps to hold more capillary water.
