Pressure: Types of Highs and Lows, Meteorological Terms Describing Low Pressure

Edit

Types of Highs and Lows

High and low pressure systems are called “highs” and “lows” respectively. Depending on characteristics like temperature gradient, they can be of following types:

  • Cold Core Lows: Cold core lows have coldest air at the center throughout the troposphere with symmetrical temperature distribution.
  • Warm Core Lows: Warm core lows are stationary. Their intensity decreases with height and temperature increases towa…

Humidity: Saturation

Edit

Amount of water vapor present in the air is called humidity. It indicates probability of precipitation, dew, or fog. High relative humidity decreases effectiveness of sweating by reducing evaporation rate of surface moisture.

Humidity - 3 Types and Its Measurement

Saturation

When a gas (or a space) holds the maximum water vapor possible at a given temperature, it becomes saturated. The amount of water vapor that can be held by air increases with temperature.
