“Indian rice exporters might face tough competition in the international market”, allege exporters. Previous year, the demand had increased as the competitors were having failure of crop as well as India had lowered its prices. But this year, in 2009 - 10, we are facing tough competition from international market as countries like Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, USA and Pakistan have enough crop and they are decreasing their prices to match up with Indian prices which is at $260- $265 per tonne. The major competitor India faces is Pakistan. However still in the high grades, as the price difference is there, India is benefitted and it may see demand provided that it supplies in time and proper quality. The very fact that international producers have started to reduce their prices is a signal for Indian exporters to gear up for 2009 - 10.
