Glyceroles

Definition

These are the mixtures-of-solutions of mother tincture in glycerine. Most of them are much viscous with jelly-like consistencies.

Preparation

Principle: One part by weight or volume of mother tincture is mixed with nine parts by weight or volume of glycerine.

Or

1: 4 One part by weight or volume of mother tincture mixed with four parts by weight or volume of glycerine excepting that of ‘starch (H. PI) ’.

Glycerole of Starch (Glycero Amyli)

• It is a form of ointment prepared in the following manner:
• 1: 8: Starch-1 part: Glycerine-8 parts
• Mix it in a glass mortar, and rub together till intimately mixed.
• Transfer the mixture to a porcelain dish.
• Apply heat (gradually raised to 240°F or 115°C) and stir constantly till the starch particles are completely broken and a jelly-like preparation is made.
